Teaching Philosophy
Guiding Star Preschool follows the
Vygotsky principles of learning :
"Children learn through play."
He  believed the interaction between the adult and the child is like a dance-the child leads and the adult follows always closely in tune with the childs actions.
One of the main principles of Vygotskys theory, is that people are products of their social and cultural worlds.
He suggests that what we should be measuring is not what children can do by themselves or all ready know, but rather what they can do with the help of another person and have the potential to learn.
He felt the role of the teacher carries much of the responsibility for making sure the childrens learning is maximized by actively  leading them down the developmental pathway. As well as to keep tasks in or slightly above the childs level of independent functioning.
Vygotsky believed through imaginative play children are able to develop and enhance the following abilities:
* General cognitive and social skills
* Memory
* Language
* Reasoning
